For a blade, Do axes do higher critical damage than swords? generally speaking, if both had the same piercings, both were +10 ulti, and both had similar awakes?

Well axes get more damage per STR point then swords do. So I'd say yes.

more specifically, crystal axe vs ancient sword, which one will deal more damage?

you need to have high dex on axe......so yeah, axe is better. and crystal axe for the 10% damage.
